Due date calculator for fertility patients
Because the human egg is capable of fertilization for only 12 to 24 hours after ovulation the date of ovulation may be taken as being the date of conception. However, ultrasound determination of the date of ovulation has the same imprecision as does the ultrasound estimate of the gestational age and, therefore, a precise date of conception cannot usually be determined as with in vitro fertilization.
In addition, although a woman is most likely to become pregnant if she has sex on the day of ovulation conception may also occur from live sperm still in her reproductive tract on the day of ovulation if she had sex for up to five days before ovulation [26,27]. The due date may be estimated by adding days 9 months and 7 days to the first day of the last menstrual period LMP. This is the method used by “pregnancy wheels”. The accuracy of the EDD derived by this method depends on accurate recall by the mother, assumes regular 28 day cycles, and that ovulation and conception occurs on day 14 of the cycle.

Accurate dating of pregnancy is essential to pregnancy care and optimal outcomes. The following steps should be undertaken to establish an EDC:. The CRL measurement should be obtained as follows:. The timing of indicated delivery in a woman with a sub-optimally dated pregnancy should be based on the best clinical estimate of gestational age. In cases were fetal growth action is suspected, follow-up Doppler studies should be obtained and the pregnancy managed accordingly.
Given the concern that a full-term or late-term sub-optimally dated pregnancy could actually be weeks farther along than expected, initiation of antenatal testing at weeks of gestation may be considered.
When LMP and Ultrasound Dates Don’t Match: When to Redate?
You can calculate your due date by subtracting three months from the first day of your last menstrual period LMP and then add a week. Use our pregnancy calculator. A pregnancy is based on being days long, which is 40 weeks more like 10 months not 9! When we give you a due date we consider 37 to 42 weeks to be full-term, so even if your baby is born two weeks before your due date it is not considered premature.
Because few women know the exact day they ovulated or conceived, an ultrasound done in the first trimester of pregnancy has been shown to the be the most accurate way to date a pregnancy. If an ultrasound date in the first trimester differs from your LMP date by seven days or more, we would go with the ultrasound.
To find the date of your 13 and 20 week scans please enter your LMP (date of last menstrual period) or EDD (estimated due date) into the calculator below.
Following a CBS13 investigation , EDD is now acknowledging its own staff may be responsible for some of those date errors. However, the agency stopped short of saying it would automatically correct the errors for those who may be impacted. Some have evidence, their printed application, proving they entered their correct date when they filed for unemployment.
These date errors have become a common topic in the Facebook groups for people struggling with unemployment claims. Adding to their frustration, they all seem to have the same alleged typos. Almost everyone who contacted CBS13 had one of two specific incorrect claim dates — either April 19th or April 26th. But after our story aired and we heard from even more people with the same incorrect claim dates, we questioned EDD again. Now, after one month, and more than 20 back and forth emails, EDD is finally acknowledging that EDD staff may be responsible for some of the incorrect dates.
The agency clarified Friday that the system automatically sets the claim start date based on the week someone applies. Then staff is supposed to backdate each claim to the date on the application. In other words, when PUA applicants applied, the system automatically set their claim start dates based on the week they applied — which for most was the week of April 26 — the week the PUA application went live.
A dating scan is an ultrasound examination which is performed in order to establish the gestational age of the pregnancy. Most dating scans are done with a trans-abdominal transducer and a fullish bladder. If the pregnancy is very early the gestation sac and fetus will not be big enough to see, so the transvaginal approach will give better pictures.
Dating scans are usually recommended if there is doubt about the validity of the last menstrual period.

Initially, the estimated date of delivery EDD is generally calculated based on the first day of the last menstrual period LMP and may later be modified when an ultrasound US scan is performed. According to the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, clinical decisions should preferably be based on the EDD by US 1 , and based on first trimester ultrasound, if performed.
The most frequently used formula for pregnancy dating in Sweden today is based on fetal biparietal measurements during the second trimester US scan, and this formula can be used to predict the day of delivery with a standard deviation SD of 8 days 2 , 3 , 4.
